Curiosity

Something that was incredibly foundational toward my healing work was when my therapist introduced the concept of curiosity.

I had a pattern of being very harsh towards myself and the elements of my story. Truth be told it still comes up but a lot less frequently.

For example, my self talk would include a lot of
“I should have…”
“Why didn’t I….?”
“I can’t believe I (or they)….”
“Why couldn’t I….?”

My therapist encouraged me to be and stay curious around these areas.

What transpired for me was changing the conversation to “I wonder”.

“I wonder what I need.”
“I wonder why they said that”
“I wonder what brought me to this conclusion.”
“I wonder what brought me to this behavior.”

Judgment is a harsh slammed door with a side of shame.

Curiosity opens the door gently. It lets in some light. It can lead us to discovery and closer to our healing.

May we choose curiosity today.

Love,
Rebecca
