This weekend my wife Christine went out of town to see our son play in his last FMEA (all- state) and her god son in his first.
She took the car and left her truck behind for me to use.
After my Jazzercise class on Saturday, I decided to do her a solid by taking the truck for a wash and detail. It was way overdue.
When I went to leave, the truck wouldn’t start. Really?! I could feel my face get hot and my thoughts start to spiral.
Why? Come ON! I was just trying to do a nice thing!!!!!!!!
I called AAA and I was forwarded to submit my request over the app. Quickly a man called me and said “Rosario, you safe? I’ll be there in 15” my answer was just a brief “yes,” and “wow “.
He got to my location and slid out of the tow truck, walked towards me like he was family and gave me a huge bear hug….Did we know each other? He said that I had his mother’s name.
He said, “what happened here mama?”
I explained and he got behind the wheel, did a couple things and got the car to start!
He said “you need to go straight to the shop, do you need me to follow you?” I said, “Awe, thank you, I got it.”
He said, “please text me when you get there safely.” I gave him some cash and he refused. I then reminded him who I shared my name with and he dropped his head and held his hand out.
I got to the shop and sent an “I am safe” text.
The smell of the tires and fluids in the shop took my breath away. I looked at the counter then looked at the sign and immediately began to cry. I texted the man child (nick name for my adult son) to see if he could come pick me up….
You see, my dad used to go to this shop, and I, his first born, would so often come pick him up. Now my first born was coming for me.
The sweet and sour of this day was just that….a bitter sweet disruption.
Life happens in the disruptions and angels appear as strangers, first borns and breathtaking grief.
